Senegal vs Belgium Prediction

Based on Senegal’s injury concerns and Belgium’s lack of defensive prowess in the group stage, my Belgium vs Senegal prediction is Both Teams to Score – “Yes” (-102).

It surprised me a little bit to see the “yes” side of both teams to score priced as the underdog. Senegal kept a clean sheet against Iraq, but allowed three to both France and Norway.

Even if you believe Belgium lacks the attacking threat of its UEFA counterparts, I still believe it can find a goal.

The attack generated 1.35 expected goals and two big scoring chances against Egypt. While the attack failed to score against Iran, the unit still amassed 1.8 expected goals.

Senegal looked strong defensively for a half against France. But the floodgates opened up in the second half as Les Bleus reached 1.8 xG against the African outfit.

Belgium will also enjoy a heavy travel advantage over Senegal. Roberto Martinez’s side picked Renton as its training base, creating an easy trip to Seattle.

Senegal last played in Toronto and returned to its East Rutherford home base. It creates a lengthy journey to Seattle for the round of 32.

All that said, my biggest belief for this match is that Senegal can exploit a bad Belgium defense.

The Belgians conceded twice in the group stage despite playing one of the easiest defensive schedules amongst any World Cup team.

Egypt opened the scoring against the Belgians, finishing on 1.1 expected goals. Iran and New Zealand both stayed under one xG, but Belgium will take a step forward against Senegal.

The African nation scored once against France (luckily) but posted a strong effort against Norway. Senegal scored twice in the second half while creating 1.7 xG for the match.

All those factors lead me to predict both teams will find a goal on Wednesday in the Pacific Northwest.
