- Tracking MLB division odds in the AL East, AL Central, and AL West in 2022
- New York Yankees lead the AL East with odds of -5000
- Minnesota Twins lead the AL Central with odds of +145
In 2022, the expanded postseason format sees the winner of each division plus three Wild Card teams from each league advance to the postseason. With an extra team from each league added, even small movements in the standings throughout the regular season can mean an entirely different crop of teams playing deep into October.
Tracking MLB division odds is a favorite pastime of baseball fans throughout the season, but it really heats up once the All-Star break is out of the way and we begin to close in on the playoffs.
As you look through daily odds at the online sportsbook, below you’ll find the weekly updated division records, handles, and odds for the AL East, AL Central, and AL West (through August 9).
AL East Odds
The Yankees dominated over the first half of the season, and thank goodness for that because they have fallen off a bit since being back. The team has been contending to be one the best in franchise history, so it’s not shocking they’ve achieved a healthy lead over their division. Still, they’d better be careful not to let their recent losing streak continue too long if they want to maintain it.
The Red Sox were doing well for a little minute there, but it seems they forgot how to play baseball over the All-Star Break. Their 28-5 loss to the Blue Jays last week did a number on their run differential, and their chances of a comeback are looking pretty slim.
On the bright side, the Red Sox’s spectacular falling apart did wonders for the Blue Jays, who are now leading the AL Wild Card standings. With a new manager settling in nicely, Toronto could play deep into October. They are a team to keep an eye on.
AL Central Odds
The Twins have the best AL Central odds, but their record puts them in equal first place with the Guardians. There is very little room for error if they want to get back ahead of the Guardians and rapidly advancing White Sox.
The White Sox have had a disappointing season so far, especially considering the offseason hype about how they’ll take the World Series. Having said that, they look to be heating up for a late-season comeback, and that’s reflected in the odds, though I may just be an eternal optimist when it comes to the South Siders.
AL West Odds
The top spot when it comes to AL West odds has been dominated by the Astros all season, and they are such heavy favorites to win the division that they have been taken off the board.
Aside from the Astros, the Mariners are currently holding onto a Wild Card spot very comfortably. The Rangers and Angels have both flirted with hot moments but generally underperformed through the season. The Angels are a team that objectively should be better, especially considering they boast both Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, but even firing their manager Joe Maddon at the start of June couldn’t save them.
As for the Athletics, well, they are doing about as well as we thought they would.
