Bears vs Buccaneers Odds: Spread, Moneyline & Total

Buccaneers vs Bears Prediction

Based on the initial move toward the Buccaneers and Tampa Bay’s rest advantage for Sunday’s game, my Bears vs Buccaneers prediction is the Buccaneers Moneyline (+210).

Oddsmakers opened Tampa Bay as a six-point road underdog on Sunday night. Even before Chicago played in Seattle on Monday night, support moved the Bucs to +5.5.

I want to tread carefully with the Bears right now. The team has recorded extremely volatile results and likely sees some improvement defensively by adding Jeffrey Simmons.

That volatility is enough to make me believe these teams are closer in quality than the line reflects.

Additionally, Tampa Bay gets an extra day to prepare for the Bears, who return home on a short week after playing in Seattle.

If there’s a matchup case for Tampa Bay, it’s that Simmons fails to improve Chicago’s meager run defense against a strong rushing attack.

Tampa Bay has dominated the Panthers and Falcons on the ground since Baker Mayfield returned from injury. Infamously, Mayfield failed to complete a pass on Sunday vs. Atlanta.

The Buccaneers offense ranks 11th in rush offense DVOA, per FTN Fantasy. This season, Tampa Bay rushed for over 200 yards in three games and finished 3-0.

Chicago sits 24th in rush defense DVOA excluding its trip to Seattle. However, the unit took a step forward in games against Atlanta and New England, averaging a -18.5% rating.

Comparatively, the Bears run defense posted a +2.5% rating in their first five games.

This game likely comes down to which Bears defense shows up. If they can limit the Bucs ground game, I have no faith in Mayfield to lead Tampa Bay to victory.

However, the initial move toward Tampa Bay and the rest discrepancy prohibit me from taking on the underdog. Accordingly, it’s the Bucs or pass on SNF.
