Based on Joe Alt’s potential absence and the Chargers’ troubling defensive record against the run, my Chargers vs Steelers prediction is the Pittsburgh Steelers Spread (+3, -110).
Pittsburgh enters SNF with two glaring advantages.
First is their ability to rush the passer. Teryl Austin’s defense ranks second in pass-rush win rate and fourth in PFF’s pressure grades.
The Chargers rank 30th in each of the corresponding offensive metrics. It’s also an offensive line that could operate without Joe Alt AND Mekhi Becton, further complicating the matter.
This season, Los Angeles is 1-2 with Alt missing the game vs. 5-1 when he plays. At Tennessee, Alt was carted off the field, suggesting another spell on the sidelines.
Trusting a patchwork offensive line against Pittsburgh’s pass rush is a scary enough proposition. If that weren’t enough, Pittsburgh’s offense also carries a glaring advantage.
The Steelers enter Week 10 ranked fifth in rush offense DVOA. Los Angeles ranks 27th in the corresponding defensive metrics, per ftnfantasy.com.
