Eagles vs Commanders Prediction

Based on the Eagles’ misleading defensive record this season and Washington’s key offensive injuries, my Commanders vs Eagles prediction is the Eagles Spread (+5.5, -105).

Stuck in my head is the sizable rest advantage for the Commanders. After closing out MNF in Week 6, Washington took a Week 7 bye.

Now they get the Eagles on a short week after Philadelphia played Dallas on MNF.

Much has changed since Week 1, when the Eagles beat Washington 24-22. Philadelphia relied on explosives to win the game as the Eagles posted a -9.5% net success rate at home.

Philadelphia remains extremely beat up on offense. Defensively, Vic Fangio’s unit is slowly starting to return to full health.

If there’s a case to be made for the Eagles, it’s that the defense is better than meets the eye. Philadelphia ranks 22nd in defensive DVOA, having faced the fourth-hardest set of offenses.

We’ve seen decent performances from Fangio’s unit, which possesses a 46.2% success rate and 6.5% DVOA average.

Philadelphia’s defense posted a -8.2% DVOA rating and 43.5% success rate against Washington in Week 1.

In Week 5, the unit posted a -11.7% DVOA rating and a 37.7% success rate against Jacksonville.

Most of Philadelphia’s defensive DVOA rating stems from one bad game against Dallas. In Week 7, the unit posted a 34.1% DVOA rating and 53.7% success rate.

The Commanders offense lacks similar firepower to Dallas. Terry McLaurin is done for the year, and the team placed Jacory Croskey-Merritt on injured reserve.

Of course, Washington still recorded its best offensive DVOA rating of the year two weeks ago at San Francisco.

However, I remain skeptical of the Commanders’ defense. Accordingly, it’s the Eagles or nothing to close out Sunday’s action.
