John Morton joins the Lions as their 2025 offensive coordinator

Morton replaced Ben Johnson, who now works as the Bears’ head coach. Morton has worked in the NFL since 2011, spending time with six teams.

Morton started his coaching career with the Raiders as an offensive assistant in 2002. He completed a second spell with the Raiders (2019-21).

Morton spent three total seasons with the Saints. In 2006, he worked for one year as an offensive assistant.

Morton returned to New Orleans in 2015 as a WR’s coach. Before rejoining the Saints, Morton spent four seasons as the 49ers’ WR’s coach.

In 2017, Morton operated as an OC for the first time. The Jets hired him for that role after six years spent with WR’s.

The 2022 NFL season marked Morton’s first in Detroit. That year, Detroit hired him as a senior off. assistant.

His spell proved short, though. In 2023, Denver hired Morton to lead the pass game.

Morton returns to Dan Campbell’s staff after two years. In 2025, he leads a Lions offense that led the NFL in points last year.
