Mac Jones was selected 15th overall in the 2021 NFL draft, part of a hefty financial class of quarterbacks that includes the Trevor Lawrence contract, the Zach Wilson contract, the Trey Lance contract, and the Justin Fields contract.

Jones wasn’t the first in the group to be questioned (Wilson), nor was he the first in the group to be traded (Lance). But now that Jones has been traded to Jacksonville – presumably to back up his draft classmate – the speculation about his career and contract status will enter new territory.

Perhaps Jones will be happy to collect a few million dollars a year as a backup quarterback in warm weather. More likely, though, is a scenario where Jones rehabilitates himself from a brutal offensive regime in New England and prepares for a potential free agency payday in 2025.

Mac Jones Contract

Mac Jones’ rookie contract is a four-year deal for $15,586,352. The contract runs through the 2024 NFL season.

Mac Jones Signing Bonus

Mac Jones’ rookie contract included a signing bonus of $8,695,528.

Mac Jones Salary

Mac Jones will earn $2,785,412 in base salary for the 2024 NFL season.

Mac Jones Guaranteed Money

Mac Jones’ entire rookie contract was fully guaranteed.

Mac Jones Fifth-Year Option

As is the case with all players drafted in the first round, Mac Jones’ rookie contract initially included a team option for a fifth year in 2025 that would pay Jones approximately $25.7 million.

However, the deadline for electing the fifth-year option passed while Jones was still a Patriot, and the team did not use it. As a result, Jones will be a free agent in 2025 without a contract extension in Jacksonville.
