Steelers vs Saints Prediction
Based on the Saints’ lucky victory over the Giants and the weather environment for Sunday’s game, my Saints vs Steelers prediction is the Steelers Spread (-3, -108).
New Orleans captured one of the more unlikely wins in Week 6. It puts them in a potential sell-high opportunity, but I’m not entirely sure the Steelers have me entirely convinced.
Pittsburgh, after all, needed some turnover luck to get to overtime against Tampa Bay. An argument can be made that the Steelers’ result was dictated by their play in the bonus frame.
Let’s talk about the Saints, though. Kellen Moore’s team beat the Giants 34-27 thanks to four turnovers on defense, the second time they’ve won a game while earning more takeaways.
Outside those plays, New Orleans remained an untrustworthy defense. The Saints posted a 47.8% defensive success rate, good for 19th in the league.
It includes a 53.1% dropback success rate, a performance better than only seven teams.
The Steelers defense showed up well against the Buccaneers. Excluding turnovers and overtime, Patrick Graham’s defense allowed a 33.9% defensive success rate as favorites.
It includes a 35.7% dropback success rate, a 7% improvement week over week.
What worries me about New Orleans is the offense has done a lot of its damage in garbage time. Only once all year have the Saints taken a lead into halftime.
Looking at the early Paris weather, it looks discouraging for a comeback effort. As of Monday afternoon, protected winds are 16 mph with gusts into the low 20s.
New Orleans lacks a good rushing attack and offensive line to counteract a good Steelers run defense. Conditions suggest a comeback effort on a porous Steelers secondary is unlikely.
Right now, my concern on Pittsburgh rests with the defense. If the environment mitigates that concern, it likely coincides with a Pittsburgh win and cover on Sunday.
