  • Scotland is predicted to be a 1.5-goal favorite against Haiti.
  • Scotland has scored multiple goals in six of its previous eight matches.
  • My Scotland vs Haiti prediction is the Total Over 2.5 Goals (-120).

Scotland begins its World Cup campaign from Boston as a heavy favorite against Haiti in Group C.

The UEFA outfit will begin the World Cup in mixed form. Recent losses to Japan and Ivory Coast saw the attack struggle after scoring multiple goals in five straight.

Haiti captured a 4-0 win over New Zealand recently to end a two-match winless run. At last year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, Haiti took only one point from three matches.

Haiti vs Scotland Prediction

Based on Haiti’s weak defensive record against decent competition and Scotland’s trouble keeping clean sheets, my Scotland vs Haiti prediction is the Total Over 2.5 Goals (-120).

If there’s a Matchday 1 clash that could see goals, it might be this one.

Haiti has struggled to keep out even bad attacks in the World Cup buildup. At last year’s Gold Cup, a rotated US attack managed 2.7 expected goals against the Haitians.

As recently as October, Haiti allowed three goals to Honduras. Metrics backed up the weak performance as the CONCACAF side allowed 1.85 xG and 3.2 post-shot xG.

Costa Rica added three in Haiti’s visit off 2.1 xG and post-shot xG, per FotMob. Despite failing to score at Haiti in November, Costa Rica failed on 2.2 post-shot xG.

Before failing offensively against Japan and Ivory Coast, Scotland reeled off strong attacking results.

After a 0-0 draw at Denmark to open qualifying, they cleared 1.7 post-shot xG in five straight. A recent friendly saw Scotland score four against Curacao.

That said, I remain skeptical about Scotland’s defense. For Haiti, Wilson Isidor and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde offer decent attacking threats from the Premier League.

Scotland has kept a clean sheet only twice in its last nine matches. One success came at Belarus, while Denmark failed to score off 1.2 xG and 0.3 post-shot xG.

Even if Haiti fails to score, enough of a chance exists that Scotland reaches three on its own.

Those factors lead me to this market instead of BTTS – “Yes” at +105 or Scotland over 1.5 at -160.
