Texas entered the 2026 season with high expectations. Arch Manning was a hot Heisman ticket, and the Longhorns were supposedly primed to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 season.
But Texas is a confusing team to grade. The Longhorns already have a road win at Tennessee and a great comeback win against Ohio State. The Buckeyes remain BetMGM’s short shot in the college football national championship odds market, so that win carries a great deal of weight.
But Texas has also looked lethargic on offense. Almost every offensive snap seems difficult and unnatural.
This team may have been ranked No. 1 for nearly a month after the Ohio State win. But with a difficult second-half schedule, the losses could pile up quickly against superior offensive foes.

Texas College Football Playoff Prediction
I am predicting Texas will make the 2026 College Football Playoff.
I am not sure that Texas is one of the 12 best teams in college football this year. But on-field results have to matter at some point, and Texas is still going to have a win against Ohio State and a handful of impressive SEC wins.
This should be enough to get the Longhorns into the playoff even if their offense fails them right away in the first round.
