The Bengals have a real Super Bowl window over the next couple of years, and the biggest reason is that Joe Burrow’s contract is one of the best values in the NFL right now.
But two of Burrow’s primary weapons in the passing game – Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase – are also on very team-friendly contracts right now.
Ja’Marr Chase Contract
Ja’Marr Chase is entering his third season of a four-year contract with the Bengals. The four-year deal is worth a total of $30,819,641. He currently has the 30th most expensive contract among wide receivers (total value).
For the 2023 season, his base salary is $940,000. He has a total cap hit of $8,405,357.
Ja’Marr Chase 5th-Year Option
Ja’Marr Chase (and the rest of the 2021 first-round picks) can have their fifth-year options picked up until May 1, 2024.
All drafted rookies are given four-year contracts, and teams can extend that contract to a fifth year with players selected in the first round.
Ja’Marr Chase Extension
Ja’Marr Chase is eligible for an extension after the third year of his rookie contract, which is after the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
Burrow lobbied for the Bengals to draft his college teammate prior to the 2021 draft. The organization took his advice, despite the team’s dire need for help along the offensive line, and the Burrow-to-Chase connection has been electric ever since.
Chase is likely to remain a No. 1 target in Cincinnati for years to come, so an eventual extension seems like a formality. However, the Bengals will remain at their best for as long as Chase is retained for cheap.
