NFL Betting Lines Week 6

Jaguars vs Texans Odds (London)

Matchup Analysis: I prefer Houston from a matchup standpoint, given how Jacksonville likes to move the ball. Houston’s defense has surrendered a ton of explosives through the air, but the Jaguars offensive line lacks a ceiling to achieve those explosives.

Jacksonville’s defense remains a massive negative regression candidate. None of their corners match up well with Nico Collins, making it Houston or nothing in this spot.

Falcons vs Bears Odds

Matchup Analysis: If the Bears offense starts to get healthier, I question how Atlanta gets stops. The Falcons, so far, prided itself on a strong run-stop unit, but the Bears have run the ball well.

Do I still question the Bears defense? Absolutely. Look out for another high-scoring Bears game a la Week 1 against Carolina.

Browns vs Ravens Odds

Matchup Analysis: This AFC North battle might offer a potential sell-high spot on Cleveland’s offense. Baltimore’s defense progressively improved against the pass, where Cleveland has done most damage.

A lot of Cleveland’s defensive viability comes down to Lamar Jackson’s health. If it’s Tyler Huntley and Mason Graham returns for Cleveland’s defense, I give both defenses the edge. Game total under might earn a look.

Colts vs Titans Odds

Matchup Analysis: Indianapolis dominated this head-to-head last season, largely via Jonathan Taylor. I don’t place much stock into the Week 8 meeting, though, as Jeffrey Simmons missed the contest.

Still, Tennessee failed to find the end zone until the third quarter in Week 3. Indy’s defense has since improved and has looked better after the Ravens-Chiefs gauntlet to start the season. If anything, Colts first-half angles could interest me in this game.

Giants vs Saints Odds

Matchup Analysis: Evaluating this game is difficult due to the cluster injuries for both teams. For New Orleans to win this game, the run defense has to improve. Kaden Elliss returning from injury (presumably) helps that unit.

Turnovers helped the Giants beat Tennessee and Arizona. Without those turnovers, I lack faith in their corners against the Saints passing game.

Patriots vs Jets Odds

Matchup Analysis: If New England continues to face a depleted secondary through injury, I like New York’s offensive viability as a dog. Of course, a Christian Gonzalez return immediately nullifies Garrett Wilson. That, plus a Breece Hall absence, could doom New York’s offense.

I’ll continue to look to sell this Jets defense, whose rating is driven by good performances against Tennessee and Green Bay. If conditions are ideal, New England’s passing game poses a problem for the Jets secondary.

Eagles vs Panthers Odds

Matchup Analysis: Everyone appears back in on Carolina’s offense after it looked good against Detroit. Even when you account for the matchup edge — Panthers off a bye, Eagles off London — I question how the Panthers offense moves the ball.

That said, cluster injuries have depleted Philadelphia’s offense. Carolina’s defense cleaned up its run-stop rating after Week 1 and surprisingly played well against Detroit. Without Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, I’m cautiously optimistic about the Panthers defense at Philadelphia.

Buccaneers vs Steelers Odds

Matchup Analysis: Color me interested in how the Bucs match up with the Steelers. In Weeks 3-4, Pittsburgh’s defense took an absolute nose dive. On TNF, the Bucs offense — albeit mostly through explosives — moved the ball well on Dallas.

Todd Bowles’ blitzing schemes should cause issues for Pittsburgh’s line. In Week 4, the unit allowed five sacks at Cleveland.

Rams vs Cardinals Odds

Matchup Analysis: The Cardinals defense remains a significant liability. Last year, the Rams scored 45 and 37 points in two head-to-head meetings.

Nothing has changed my opinion about Arizona’s defense in the subsequent games. In Week 3, the defense recorded a 60.3% DVOA rating at San Francisco. Los Angeles, even on a short week, can name their number offensively.

Raiders vs Bills Odds

Matchup Analysis: I remain faithless in the Raiders defense, which has struggled to stop good rushing attacks. Against the Chargers and Chiefs, Las Vegas recorded a 17% rush DVOA rating vs. a -25.2% average against Miami and New Orleans.

Buffalo poses the biggest challenge from a rush offense DVOA standpoint. The Bills ranked second in rush DVOA last year and led the NFL through Week 4.

Chiefs vs Chargers Odds

Matchup Analysis: Mike McDaniel’s offense has faced some bad defenses and looked atrocious. The Chargers defense looked good against Seattle, but playing a better Chiefs offense off a bye is a different test.

The wrinkle here is that Kansas City could miss Rashee Rice. In Week 4, Los Angeles delivered an admirable performance against Smith-Njigba (five catches, 76 yards). It could lead DC Chris O’Leary to stack the box and have anyone besides Kenneth Walker II win the game.

Packers vs Cowboys Odds (SNF)

Matchup Analysis: Turnovers troubled Dallas in their loss to Tampa Bay as 8.5-point favorites. On plays excluding turnovers, Dallas still recorded a 52.6% offensive success rate.

Without Micah Parsons, Green Bay’s defense lacks any counterpunch to the Cowboys offense. Matt LaFleur’s offense also lacks a good line and running back to exploit Dallas like Bucky Irving in Week 5. If the Packers fail to sustain drives, Dallas could score points at will.

49ers vs Commanders Odds (MNF)

Matchup Analysis: In a world where Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs play on MNF, I like both offenses to move the ball.

Unless Dan Quinn’s defense forces a bunch of turnovers, Kyle Shanahan should challenge this secondary. Washington’s only above-average pass defense performance came against Daniel Jones. I simultaneously like Washington’s aerial attack against a fraudulent Niners secondary.
