Week 2 games are right around the corner, and plenty of teams are being dramatically overvalued after last Saturday’s results.
In some cases, the market is racing to adjust teams that looked good in their first game of the season. In others, it’s too slow to adjust at all, clinging to preseason assumptions.
Either way, this leaves several juicy college football betting opportunities for precocious handicappers who are paying close attention to non-marquee programs.
Texas Tech vs. Oregon State Prediction
Texas Tech’s offense looked like a work in progress in Week 1 against an FCS opponent, while Oregon State played a competitive game at Houston that was a one-possession game in the fourth quarter.
One game isn’t enough to lock down every last aspect of these two teams. But based on what I watched last week, I felt vindicated in some of my preseason skepticism of Tech. Yet this week, the Red Raiders are going on the road and laying four scores against a team that just played another Big 12 contender close.
This point spread is a function of how high the public is on Texas Tech. Since I’m skeptical that this offense should be laying north of three touchdowns on a 1,000-mile road trip, I’ll take the ugly dog that should probably be closer to +14.5.
Prediction: Oregon State +25.5
Michigan vs. Oklahoma Prediction
Even if Michigan’s offense hadn’t struggled against WMU last week, this would still probably be an under for me. Oklahoma has won four straight regular-season games against Big Ten opponents, and all four of those games have gone under the total.
That makes the under an appealing play in this game, but it also means an Oklahoma/under same-game parlay could be an extra add-on worth considering.
Prediction: Under 43.5
UCLA vs. San Diego State
San Diego State is shorthanded as an above-average G6 team that plays good defense, and many fans didn’t stay up to watch UCLA’s impressive Week 1 win over Cal. Because of that I do feel like I’m operating on something of an information advantage in handicapping this game.
San Diego State’s 2026 defense doesn’t quite live up to its reputation, particularly over the middle and at the linebacker position. UCLA’s new-look ground game with Wayne Knight should be able to gash the Aztecs for all four quarters, allowing the Bruins to build a sufficient cover margin.
Prediction: UCLA -12
Army vs. South Florida Prediction
I faded South Florida as overvalued last week, and FIU rewarded me with a dramatic cover on the last play of the game.
This number is more reasonable for the Bulls, but I still like the other side. Army has one of the best offensive lines in college football this year and should be able to bully the USF front. I’m predicting some long touchdown runs in the second half.
At -3.5, there just isn’t enough of a cost here to make me think twice about another USF fade.
Prediction: Army -3.5
Fresno State vs. Sacramento State
I am pretty heavy on Fresno State exposure this year, and that bit me in last week’s game against USC. The Trojans started fast, generated turnovers, and played aggressive defense. As the game got out of hand, Fresno’s power run game just wasn’t suited to play from several touchdowns behind.
That won’t be the case this week, as Fresno lines up to play what is arguably the worst team in FBS football. Sacramento State is a new transitional team that simply doesn’t have FBS-caliber depth. Fresno is going to run the ball right at them all night, and the snowballing nature of the second half will be good for a cover against a crooked number like this.
Prediction: Fresno State -18
Sam Houston vs. Tulsa Prediction
This is probably my best bet of the week. Sam Houston has been a feisty September dog since moving to FBS and arguably outplayed Troy in Saturday’s 24-21 loss.
This week, Sam Houston is once again a double-digit dog. Unlike last week, the Bearkats are at home, and they’re playing a Tulsa team that’s taken a huge market adjustment after last week’s win over Oklahoma State.
After beating their big brother from Stillwater, are the Golden Hurricanes really in a position to go on the road and cover a two-touchdown spread against a team hungry to find a win? In my view, everything about this game points to a strong outing from the home dog and a disappointment from the road favorite.
Prediction: Sam Houston +13.5
