The Race to Dubai is off as Englishmen and Spaniards look to continue their recent dominance of the European Golf Tour schedule.
More than a decade after Lee Westwood ran away with the inaugural World Tour Championship (then the Dubai World Championship), the world’s second-biggest professional golf circuit is bigger and more global than ever as Johannes Veerman, Erik van Rooyen, and other non-European golfers have found success in recent years.
It is, however, still dominated by Europeans, particularly in the Rolex Series. Englishman Tyrrell Hatton won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (and Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello finished fourth) while others, including Hatton’s countryman Paul Casey, are fixtures atop golf betting odds.
After Westwood’s win in 2009, no other Englishman won the World Tour Championship until 2016. You watched them post five second-place finishes from 2010-15, including two apiece from Justin Rose and Ian Poulter, but all failed to win until Matt Fitzpatrick’s one-stroke victory in 2016. Sandwiched between Fitzpatrick’s 2016 and 2020 victories were two wins by Spaniard Jon Rahm (2017 and 2019) and one by Danny Willett (2018).
In fact, all four Rolex Series events in 2020–Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, BMW PGA Championship, and the World Tour Championship–were won by Englishmen. They won nine of the 38 total events on the 2020 schedule.
How to Bet on the European Tour
At BetMGM, you can bet on one of the favorites (like Hatton entering the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January), an underdog (like Romain Langasque entering last year’s ISPS Handa Wales Open), or any combination of multiple golfers. Whether you’d like Fitzpatrick or Rahm to win a third championship in 2021 or Westwood to reclaim his title after a second-place finish in 2020, BetMGM is your destination for European Tour golf odds and European Tour golf betting tips this season.
