Masters Odds & 2021 Masters Tournament Betting
Only four months after winning his first green jacket, Dustin Johnson will return to Augusta National as a favorite in Masters odds in his quest to become a rare back-to-back champion. In shooting a final-round 68 to finish 20-under at the 2020 US Masters in November, the third-ever to be played outside March (and first since 1939), Johnson won after four consecutive top-10 finishes in golf’s most prestigious event. The victory, and the final scores of 33 other golfers who finished ahead of Tiger Woods, also ensured there wouldn’t be a repeat champion for the 18th consecutive year.
Successful defenses of major championships are no longer common, though several golfers have won the same major in back-to-back years since Woods did it at Augusta in 2002 and 2003. Brooks Koepka did it in both The Open Championship and US PGA Championship, as did Woods in the same two tournaments and Padraig Harrington in the PGA Championship. That’s five separate instances of repeat champions in the other three major championships since it last happened at The Masters 18 years ago.
Johnson’s win at Augusta last year was his 24th career win on the PGA Tour. He’s won six different tournaments multiple times but hasn’t successfully defended a title since winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in both 2009 and 2010. One year after winning the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont, Johnson missed the cut at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills. He couldn’t recover from an opening-round 75 and failed to defend his first major championship.
