The Big 12 Championship is here, featuring Baylor vs. Oklahoma State. The Baylor Bears are ranked ninth in the CFP rankings, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are fifth.
BetMGM’s latest college football odds have Oklahoma State as a five and a half point favorite.
Will they cover the spread? And what other good bets are on the board in this game?
These are some of my picks.
Oklahoma State -5.5
Oklahoma State was a difficult pick, but I lean towards the Cowboys here because they have the better defense.
They lead the Big 12 in every major statistical category on defense, such as total yards allowed per game (276.3), passing yards allowed per game (184.8), rushing yards allowed per game (91.5), and points allowed per game (16.4).
When Oklahoma State and Baylor met up earlier in this regular season, Oklahoma State’s defense had their way with them. They held them to 14 points, well under Baylor’s 33.4 per game average, and held them to 107 rushing yards when they average more than double that at 227.4.
If the Cowboys’ defense can shut down the running game as they did in their last meeting, I am confident that they will cover the spread here.
At first, this point total struck me as odd because, in the regular season, these two teams averaged a combined 65 points per game. So, with that in mind, you might think that this total is a little low.
I’m scared off by the total here, and I support the under in this game.
In 12 games, Oklahoma State has gone over the point total just four times this year. Baylor also has an exceptional defense, holding teams to only 19.4 points per game, which is 17th in the nation. Baylor also ranks 22nd in rushing yards allowed per game with 122.69, and Oklahoma State runs the ball 15 more times each game on average than they pass it.
I believe that this will be a low-scoring affair because both defenses are strong and physical football in the trenches.
Oklahoma State Money Line and Under 48.5 (+155)
I like this wager because you are getting good favorable odds at +155 and a few more points on the total as a buffer.
Plus, Oklahoma State only has to win the game outright in this situation. Because of the strong defenses in this game, it will be close. This option means that you won’t watch your bet fail on a late field goal.
So, in case Baylor decides to keep this close, I like this as an alternative option.
