  • This will be Crews-Dezurn's first undisputed world super middleweight title defense.
  • Franchon Crews-Dezurn is the betting underdog at +333.
  • Savannah Marshall is the heavy betting favorite at -400.

Manchester Arena will host an undisputed boxing title match this Saturday, July 1, as reigning and defending undisputed world super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn (8-1) tries to fend off the challenge from Savannah Marshall (12-1) to keep her status as the world’s best 168-pounder boxer in the women’s division.

Even with all four major titles on her side, Crews-Dezurn still comes in as a betting underdog at -333 in BetMGM’s online sportsbook, while the challenger is tagged as the heavy betting favorite at -400. A major factor for this betting is the number of TKO/KO wins, as Marshall has more TKO/KO wins (10 in 12 wins) over Crews-Dezurn (who only has two out of eight).

Another huge aspect of their respective roles is that the “Silent Assassin” will enjoy a home turf advantage in front of British fans back home against the “Heavy Hitting Diva,” who hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and will be making her debut fight outside of the United States since turning pro in 2016.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn Recent Fight Results

Franchon Crews-Dezurn is the reigning undisputed women’s super middleweight champion, who has been undefeated since losing her professional debut fight to Claressa Shields in November 2016. The 36-year-old accumulated eight straight wins, including two TKO stoppages, en route to becoming the queen of the 168-pound weight class.

The “Heavy Hitting Diva” out of Norfolk, Virginia, won her first two titles against Maricela Cornejo in September 2018 (WBC World Super Middleweight title) and September 2019 (WBO World Super Middleweight title). Then, she defended it against Alejandra Jimenez in January 2020 and unified all the belts against Elin Cederroos during her most recent fight in April 2022.

Savannah Marshall Recent Fight Results

Savannah Marshall is the former WBA Inter-Continental Super Middleweight and WBO World Middleweight champion. She holds an impressive record of 12 wins, with 10 TKO/KOs and only one defeat. She won the WBO title in October 2020 against Hannah Rankin and was able to defend it three times over Maria Lindberg, Lolita Muzeya, and Femke Hermans.

Unfortunately, the “Silent Assassin” came up short in unifying all the world middleweight titles in October 2022. Claressa Shields dealt her the unanimous decision loss, which was the first defeat in Marshall’s professional career. Before the British boxing star’s challenge versus Crews-Dezurn, she had already fought in super middleweight bouts, where she both won via TKO.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn vs. Savannah Marshall: Fight Analysis

On paper, Savannah Marshall holds an advantage in youth and height, as she is four years younger at 32 and three inches taller at 5-foot-11 compared to Franchon Crews-Dezurn, who is already 36 and standing at 5-foot-8. The two have an identical reach of 72 inches and are both fighting in an orthodox stance, which means they are right-handed.

Apart from the lead in age and height, the challenger also flaunts a higher finishing rate of 83% against the champion’s low 25%. They have a different approach in terms of style because Crews-Dezurn fights aggressively, with her power punches being the primary weapon, while Marshall employs a counterpunching style that also carries a ton of jabs.

The key for Crews-Dezurn is to keep on the pressure and bring the fight to Marshall through her power punches, highlighted by her overhand right to potentially end the fight early. She also needs to mix her attack by throwing more jabs and body punches instead of just finding a home for that lethal right hand.

It is crucial for the defending champion to establish her presence and find her range early; this way, she can potentially end the fight because, based on her previous bouts, Crews-Dezurn fades in the later rounds because she loses energy. If she wants to sustain her pressure in the tail-end of the fight, she might want to pick her shots and not unload early.

Marshall’s ace up her sleeve is her loose and relaxed fighting style. She maximizes this by setting up counterpunches through her well-coordinated and rapid footwork. Additionally, she delivers a volume of jabs to keep her opponents at a certain range and score points on the judges’ scorecards, thus frustrating the opposition.

If Marshall can weather the expected early onslaught from Crews-Dezurn, she will give herself the best opportunity to win, either by a late TKO/KO finish or a unanimous decision. But if the defending champion lands a solid punch and combination onto the challenger, it will be a successful title defense and a short night for her.
