Kyle Buschโs season debut on the Xfinity Series will come at the same track โ and one day shy of the exact same date 21 years ago โ as his career debut on NASCARโs second-tier circuit. This time, at the BetMGM 300, heโll be a heavy favorite instead of a little-known 18-year-old.
Busch opened at +225 in Xfinity Series odds for Saturdayโs BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, well ahead of the other favorites:
- Kyle Busch: +225
- Justin Allgaier: +500
- Chase Elliott: +650
- Cole Custer: +700
- Chandler Smith: +900
In his debut on May 24, 2003, Busch finished second to Matt Kenseth in the Carquest Auto Parts 300. It was the first of three top-10 finishes in seven starts that season, which set him up for a full schedule in 2004 and โ after winning Rookie of the Year with five wins and an average finish of 9.5 โ a full NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2005.
Those five wins in 2004 are among 102 career Xfinity Series victories. The other 39 drivers with race-winner odds have 105 combined.ย
That group includes Allgaier, who won this race last year and in his last start, the Crown Royal Purple Bag Project 200 on May 11. It was Allgaierโs third top-five finish in five starts and ensured an eighth straight year with at least one Xfinity Series win. Thatโs one year shy of the nine-year record shared by Busch and Mark Martin.
Elsewhere, points leader Austin Hill is +1100, Sam Mayer is +1400 after four top-fives in his last five starts, and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Jesse Love is +2500.
