The Minnesota Vikings have appeared in four Super Bowls: IV, VIII, IX, and XI.
Have the Vikings Ever Won the Super Bowl?
The Vikings are one of 12 NFL franchises to have not won a Super Bowl. However, they are tied with the Buffalo Bills with the most Super Bowl appearances despite never winning it all with four.
Minnesota has not appeared in the Super Bowl since its last appearance in Super Bowl XI. In the 46 following seasons, the Vikings have gone 0-6 in Conference Championship games.
Super Bowl IV vs. Chiefs
Minnesota’s first Super Bowl appearance was a disaster in a 23-7 loss. After a 12-2 season, the Vikings were 13.5-point favorites over the Chiefs, providing a dishearting and unexpected loss for the Purple People Eaters.
Super Bowl VIII vs. Dolphinsย
The Vikings ran into the Don Shula Dolphins as they took down Minnesota for their second of back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Minnesota had no answer to the Dolphins, who dominated the entire game.
Super Bowl IX vs. Steelers
This was a clash between two of the NFL’s most historic defenses, the Steel Curtain and the Purple People Eaters, and two Hall of Fame quarterbacks, Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton. Ultimately, the Vikings had no answer for Franco Harris in a 16-6 victory en route to Pittsburgh’s first championship.
Super Bowl XI vs. Raiders
The Oakland Raiders dominated the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota’s fourth Super Bowl appearance in eight years by a score of 32-14, ending the reign of Hall of Fame head coach Bud Grant and the Purple People Eaters.
