Matthew Slater is returning to the New England Patriots for the 2023 season.

Matthew Slater Salary

Slater signed a one-year, $2.67 million contract ahead of the 2023 season. He will earn $2.5 million in base salary and a $152,000 bonus.

Matthew Slater Cap Hit

The 37-year-old will carry a cap hit of $1.3 million this year. For reference, all teams in the league have a $225,000,000 salary cap in 2023.

Matthew Slater Potential Extension

The Patriots drafted Slater in the fifth round, 153rd overall of the 2008 draft. He has spent his entire career with the team.

First voted team captain in 2011, Slater is a three-time Super Bowl Champion, ten-time Pro Bowl Selection, and a member of the Patriots All-Decade and All-Dynasty teams.

Turning 38 this year, Slater is the second-oldest player on the Patriots roster, behind kicker Nick Folk. Yet, he hasn’t shown signs of slowing down. In 2022, he led New England’s kicking game with 385 snaps played and reached double-digit tackles for the eleventh time in his career.

That being said, an extension might be unlikely; the one-year contract suggests Slater may retire after this upcoming season.
