  • F1 sprint races feature truncated versions of races with a unique qualifying.
  • Drivers earn world championship points as part of F1 sprint races.
  • The 2025 F1 schedule features six sprint races, including Miami and Austin.

On specific occasions across the 2025 F1 Schedule, drivers partake in a sprint race, which replaces two practice sessions.ย

The sprint race is a shortened version of a full grand prix that sees drivers compete for world championship points.ย

This format features five times in the 2025 season and follows a similar format to the structure of a normal grand prix.ย

Drivers compete in a qualifying session to produce a grid order for the sprint race. This sprint qualifying session follows the same format as normal F1 qualifying.ย

After the qualifying session,ย  drivers compete in the sprint race. The race usually runs around 20-25 laps, depending on the circuit.ย

Following the conclusion of the sprint race, drivers are assigned world championship points based on their finishing position.

The driver who finishes P1 earns eight points while the driver who finishes P8 earns one point. No points are awarded to P9-P20.ย
