  • Max Verstappen, the defending world champion, leads the ticket count in Japan.

Below are Formula 1 public betting insights for the Japanese Grand Prix based on F1 betting odds

The grand prix, fourth on the calendar for the 2024 season, is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, at 2 a.m. ET.

Given the indexed drivers list in the outright market, public support is defined as drivers who received a plurality of the tickets.

Bettors can identify sharp support when a driver receives more money compared to their ticket count.

With that established, let’s jump into this week’s data for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Formula 1 Public Betting Report – Japanese Grand Prix

As of April 5, defending world champion Max Verstappen leads the outright winner market with 22.1% of all tickets.

Verstappen, who won 17 races last year on his way to a third world title, opened at -400 to win the race but now sits at -650 following Friday practice sessions in Suzuka.

In Australia, seven drivers received more than 3% of tickets in the outright market. However, that number is down to six in Japan:

  • Carlos Sainz Jr. (+1000): 16.5% of tickets
  • Charles Leclerc (+1000): 14.5% of tickets
  • Sergio Perez (+1000): 11.2% of tickets
  • Lando Norris (+1600): 9.6% of tickets
  • Lewis Hamilton (+6600): 6.9%% of tickets

F1 Sharp Betting Odds Report – Japanese Grand Prix

Despite his high moneyline price, bettors aren’t shying away from hammering Verstappen’s price.

Although he accounted for only 22.1% of tickets, he received 53.5% of all dollars to win Sunday’s grand prix. For context, no other driver has cleared 10% of the handle.

That renders Verstappen, winner of two straight grand prix’s in Japan, as the sharp betting target for the fourth race of 2024.

Only two other drivers have eclipsed their bets percentage with their handle percentage: Oscar Piastri and George Russell.

Although it’s marginal, Piastri has received 2.6% of tickets and 3.4% of handle while Russell is sitting on 2.3% of tickets and 2.7% of the total handle.

As a result, assume all other drivers are public targets thanks to their lofty outright winner prices.
