William Byron (+250) Wins BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway

William Byron overcame a penalty to win the BetMGM 300 on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Byron, making just his 10th Xfinity Series start in the last four years, was the favorite at the online sportsbook throughout the week and remained the favorite (+250) entering the race. After a pit-stop speeding penalty at the end of Stage 2, he struggled to return to contention before slowly making his way back. And after passing Justin Allgaier just ahead of the white flag in overtime, he secured both a win for BetMGM bettors and Hendrick Motorsports.

Allgaier (+300 in closing odds) fell to fourth, behind Connor Zilisch (+1100) and Nick Sanchez (+10000). Sammy Smith (+2500) completed the top five. What would’ve been Allgaier’s third win in the first 13 races of the season turned into his eighth top-five finish, just two off his total in 33 starts last year.

Byron is also scheduled to start Sunday’s Cup Series race at Charlotte, the Coca-Cola 600. As of Saturday night, he has the third-shortest odds at +725, behind only Kyle Larson (+500) and Denny Hamlin (+700).
