Since 1969, the NBA has honored the top performer in the NBA Finals with an MVP trophy named after Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell. Members of the media covering the series determine the MVP.

This can be a fun market to explore during the postseason, as these odds are often better than a teamโ€™s price to win the title.

Hereโ€™s a look at the latest NBA odds and predictions for the 2025 NBA Finals MVP market:

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander enters the postseason as the betting favorite to win the NBA Finals MVP, trading at +180 for an implied probability of 35.71% to win the award.

For comparison, Oklahoma City is +185 to win the championship.

I donโ€™t feel comfortable backing that small number this early in the postseason because itโ€™s hard to imagine it getting much worse one round later. Iโ€™m more intrigued by the 80/1 price tags on SGAโ€™s teammates, as both Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams make a case.

While SGA could win the regular-season MVP, the Thunderโ€™s chances for a deep playoff run depend on whether a No. 2 scorer can emerge. Williams, a fringe All-NBA player this year, has the best opportunity after averaging 21.6 points per game.

However, Holmgren may be the better MVP pick due to his two-way impact. He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game over 37 contests this year.

Still, Iโ€™d prefer to look elsewhere in a wide-open Western Conference.

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Donฤiฤ‡ makes the most sense at his +2000 value, especially after leading the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals last year.

Donฤiฤ‡ and the Lakers wouldnโ€™t have to face the Thunder until at least the Western Conference finals, setting up a favorable path this postseason.

Prediction: Luka Donฤiฤ‡ (+2000)
