The last time a member of the Big 12 won a menโ€™s college basketball national championship was 2022.

Kansas survived a furious North Carolina comeback to win the 2022 national championship game โ€“ its fourth program title and second under head coach Bill Self.

Big 12 National Championship History

Kansas and Baylor won back-to-back championships for the Big 12 in 2021 and 2022, cementing an era that has seen a deep, powerful Big 12 dominate college basketball in recent years.

Surprisingly, those were two of only three championships that have been won by the conference. Big 12 basketball is a relatively new phenomenon, having only just begun during the 1996-97 season with former members of the Big 8 and the Southwest Conference.

The Big 12 has had slightly more championship success in womenโ€™s hoops, where Baylorโ€™s emergence as an elite program has delivered multiple national championships in Waco since the mid-2000s. The most recent of Baylorโ€™s titles came in 2019.ย
