The Carolina Panthers drafted Curtis Samuel in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The wide receiver from Ohio State played for four seasons in Carolina before joining the Washington Commanders as a free agent.

Curtis Samuel Salary

Samuel signed a three-year deal worth $34.5 million in March of 2021. He was reunited with college teammate Terry McLaurin, and the duo hoped to give Washington a one-two punch at wideout. Now in the final year of his deal, Samuel has a 2023 salary of $10,100,000.

Curtis Samuel Cap Hit

The cap hit for Samuel’s contract for 2023 is $13 million. Samuel is the the 24th highest-paid wide receiver in the league for 2023.

Curtis Samuel Potential Extension

Samuel was disappointing in 2021 and 2022. Some of that could be attributed to poor quarterback play, but it’s a bottom-line league, and Samuel was not producing.

The 2023 season was his best in Washington, hauling in 64 receptions for 656 yards. Despite the revolving door at quarterback, Samuel had a solid campaign. The Commanders brought in Eric Bieniemy as the new offensive coordinator and hope to develop Sam Howell into a quality option at quarterback.

Samuel is in the last year of his deal with the Commanders, and it would be surprising if the Commanders signed him to another long-term contract. If Samuel is to get an extension before becoming a free agent, it will likely be a one or two-year contract with a smaller base salary.
