Drafted 91st overall in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft, Jacoby Brissett has carved out a better football career than anyone expected. He’s started more than half of his 76 professional games.

In 2022, the 30-year-old had his best NFL season while playing for the Cleveland Browns. He threw for 2,608 yards and 12 touchdowns. This was good enough to earn him a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders for 2023.

Jacoby Brissett Salary

Brissett inked the one-year deal with the Commanders on March 15, 2023. It is worth $8,000,000 and includes a $4,500,000 signing bonus, with $7,500,000 guaranteed.

In 2023, the veteran will have a base salary of $3,000,000, a signing bonus of $4,500,000, and a workout bonus of $500,000. He also has $2,000,000 worth of incentives written in the contract.

Jacoby Brissett Cap Hit

The quarterback will carry a cap hit of $8,000,000 in 2023. His contract has a dead cap value of $7,500,000 this year.

Jacoby Brissett Potential Extension

Brissett’s contract is just for one year, and an extension largely hinges on the performance of sophomore Sam Howell. If Howell holds onto the starting position, the Commanders may want to move on from Brissett, as he would be an expensive backup.

However, Brissett will have a chance to flip the script and earn that starting role in Washington. Howell is inexperienced, starting just one NFL game in his young career. If Brissett continues to be as efficient as last year, it would be hard to deny him a starting spot. He had a higher QB rating (59.9) than Lamar Jackson (59.0) and Joe Burrow (58.7) in 2022.

Set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2023, the 30-year-old will have to decide on the future of his career. Will he accept a backup role or continue pushing to be a starter on mediocre teams? Only time will tell.
