Alexandre Pantoja remained the undisputed UFC flyweight champion after submitting promotional newcomer Kai Asakura in the main event of UFC 310 on Saturday evening inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Pantoja used his superior grappling skills to put the Japanese superstar to sleep in the second round, nullifying his striking accuracy and preventing him from defying the MMA odds by becoming a UFC champion in his octagon debut.
This was Pantojaโs third successive title defense since becoming the divisional king in July 2023. Along with Vicente Luque, Chase Hooper, and Kennedy Nzechukwu, he has captured the additional $50,000 performance bonus.
