  • The Sun have a win total of 24.5 entering the 2024 WNBA season.
  • Connecticut went 27-13 last year, losing in the semifinals.

Despite coming close with seven consecutive playoff berths, the Connecticut Sun have still yet to win a WNBA title in franchise history.

That is unlikely to change, with the Sun priced as the fourth-best team in the league via the odds at the online sportsbook entering the 2024 season.

But is this the year that the Sun finally take a step back?

Sun Futures Odds

Win total: 24.5
To make playoffs: -800
To miss playoffs: +550
Championship odds: +1100

The Sun have been the model of consistency of late.

They have reached at least the semifinals in five straight seasons, including a pair of runner-up finishes. Connecticut hasnโ€™t finished outside the top three in the regular season since 2020.

The Sun have a preseason win total of 24.5 following last yearโ€™s 27-13 campaign. This line has even moved down from 25.5 since early May, with bettors needing to pay -120 to take the under.

Sun 2024 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Under 25.5 Wins (-115)

Note: This bet was made in early May before the line moved.

Betting against Connecticutโ€™s reputation is difficult, but all signs point toward this team taking a step back.

For one, the league is much more competitive than last year. The New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are both 30-win teams, and there are a handful of squads capable of reaching the 20-win range.

Alyssa Thomas was a runner-up in the MVP race last year, but this will be her age-32 season. DeWanna Bonner, who led the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game, is 36 years old.

I donโ€™t think the Sun are going to fall off completely, but the Dallas Wings and Seattle Storm could both pass them this season.

If that happens, Connecticut’s win total will be closer to the low 20s than mid-20s.

Thatโ€™s an important difference when taking this under.
