Polish phenom Iga Swiatek returns to the court in Montreal as the No. 1 seed in this week’s tournament. Swiatek, who remains No. 1 in the world, took last week off after winning her home tournament in Warsaw the previous week.Â
As reflected in the futures table, Swiatek’s biggest competition this week is likely No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, a strong hardcourt player and reigning Australian Open champion. Sabalenka is 3-5 against Swiatek overall but has won two of their last three head-to-head matches.
Last month’s Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, is 20-to-1. She’s in a challenging quarter with major American challengers like Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.Â
Elena Rybakina, the No. 3 seed, will also be a trendy choice to lift the Rogers Cup trophy this weekend. She has been to two Grand Slam finals recently (Wimbledon ‘22, Australian Open ‘23) and has a reasonable path through her quarter.
