Switzerland might not be a big destination for international sports, but men’s tennis fans certainly carry a certain fondness for the country.
That’s in part because of Roger Federer, who ranks highly on the leaderboard of most grand slam tennis championships.
Fittingingly, Federer won 10 different men’s singles tournaments at Basel – his home tournament – which is more than anyone else in the history of the long-standing Swiss Indoors competition.
Of course, Federer won’t be in the draw this week at Basel, but several other major players will. That includes clay masters Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime, and hometown favorite Stan Wawrinka.
The total prize purse for the 2024 Basel Open is €2,385,100, or roughly $2.575 million. The singles champion will walk away with $472,130 in prize money.
