  • The total prize purse for the 2024 French Open is nearly $60 million.
  • Both the men's and women's champion will receive more than $2.5 million each.

Clay season is one of the most popular sections of the tennis calendar. It centers around beautiful European courts in the springtime, generally running from the beginning of April into the opening days of June.

The end of the clay season is marked by one of the four major grand slam tennis tournaments of the year: the French Open.

In recent years, clay legend Rafael Nadal has dominated the French Open, winning 14 titles since 2005. However, Nadal is about to turn 38 and has been plagued by injuries in recent years. He didn’t play in last year’s draw and may struggle to make a deep run this year.

Recent world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who missed last week’s Italian Open with a right forearm injury, is similarly in danger of an unusually short run at Roland Garros.

The upshot of the injuries to two of the most prominent players in clay tennis? The total prize purse is up to €53,478,000, or $58,134,864 this year. A lot of that money is more up for grabs than ever before.

Below is the prize money table for the 2024 French Open. Men’s and women’s players earn equal prize money at this tournament.
