  • Regis Prograis will defend his WBC World Super Lightweight title against undefeated challenger Devin Haney this weekend.
  • Prograis is the betting underdog at +275.
  • Haney is the betting favorite at -350.

Reigning WBC World Super Lightweight champion Regis Prograis (29-1) will be defending his title for the second time since winning it against former undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney (30-0) this Saturday, Dec. 9, inside the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Although he is the defending champion, Prograis is the betting underdog in boxing odds at +275, while Haney assumes the -350 betting favorite role in this world title clash. One major factor for their position in the betting lines is their record, as Haney is still undefeated in 30 fights, while Prograis has already sustained one defeat.

Regis Prograis Recent Fight Results

Prograis won the vacant WBC World Super Lightweight by knocking out Jose Zepeda in the 11th round of their championship match in November 2022. He successfully defended it against Danielito Zorrilla in June via a close split decision.

Before his reign as the WBC champion, he won 27 of his 28 fights, including 23 TKO/KO finishes. Along with these wins, he also captured the WBC Diamond Super Lightweight title and the WBA World Super Lightweight title. His only defeat came from Josh Taylor, who handed him a majority decision in October 2019.

Devin Haney Recent Fight Results

Haney was the former undisputed lightweight champion of the world who won all four major titles in the division. He defended this status twice by beating George Kambosos Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko before officially moving up in weight.

“The Dream” will bring his perfect 30-0 record, with 15 TKO/KOs, into his first bout in the 140-pound weight class. Aside from his impressive wins over Kambosos Jr. and Lomachenko, Haney also defeated other notable boxers like Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares, and Joseph Diaz.

Regis Prograis vs. Devin Haney: Fight Analysis

The tale of the tape favors Haney because he is nine years younger and has a 4-inch reach advantage against Prograis. Meanwhile, the defending champion has a better TKO/KO percentage of 83% than the challenger’s 50%. Both fighters have an identical height of 5-foot-8.

Another major difference between the two boxing stars is the stance because Prograis fights in Southpaw, while Haney fights in Orthodox. They have 30 fights on their record, but Haney kept a perfect slate, and Prograis had already sustained a defeat.

In terms of fighting style, it is an opposite approach, as Prograis is an offensive-minded boxer who likes to play the defensive role. The defending champion is a heavy puncher with a one-shot punch power that can put anyone in the division to sleep if landed cleanly.

Prograis has that incredible power and elite footwork that he uses to fire multiple jabs, which sets up his powerful combinations. If he can impose his forward pressure throughout the fight and land several punches against the challenger by closing the distance, he will succeed on fight night.

On the other hand, Haney is a long-range fighter because he always maximizes his reach advantage against his opposition. Apart from staying out of the pocket for exchanges, the former lightweight champion can adjust on the fly depending on what his opponent presents.

This high-level fight IQ will spell a significant edge for him as he can counter the aggressive approach from Prograis. Once he finds his proper fighting range, it will be a long night for the WBC Super Lightweight champion because Haney can cruise around and sneak in counterpunches that will lead him to another masterful decision victory.
