The British Open has long been revered as a unique and unmatched challenge.

From the unpredictable weather and razor-thin out-of-bounds’ margins to the massive bunkers and bottomless rough, golf’s oldest major championship is repeatedly dubbed a “beast” by American golfers. For American fans at home, live sports betting is the only way to experience the beast that is British Open betting.

What is British Open Live Betting?

When the first group tees off at Royal St. George’s on Thursday, July 18, pre-tournament betting odds are locked, and British Open live betting opens. And live betting remains open through all four days of the tournament.

For example, four weeks after winning the U.S. Open, maybe Jon Rahm is atop the leaderboard in the final round in England. In search of his first British Open title, Rahm leads his playing partner, Rory McIlroy, by two strokes as they approach the 11th hole, a sea-facing par-3 that played approximately 240 yards at the venue’s last Open in 2011.

At this moment, several live betting opportunities are available, including championship winner:

  • Rahm: -120
  • McIlroy: +200
  • DeChambeau: +450
  • Spieth: +600
  • Koepka: +800

And player to make the lowest score on the 11th hole:

  • Rahm: +180
  • McIlroy: +200
  • Same score: -150

With British Open live betting, you could place live bets on Rahm to hold onto the lead, McIlroy to win his second championship (and first since 2014), or a variety of other player- and hole-specific odds.

### How to Live Bet on the British Open

Live sports betting is easy regardless of your golf knowledge or online sports betting experience.

While you’re watching Rahm and McIlroy on TV, streaming the final round on your phone during an inexcusably ill-timed graduation party, or tracking scores online, it takes only seconds to place a live bet with up-to-the-minute Open Championship odds.

If, for example, you placed a golf futures bet on Rahm weeks earlier (at +1200 odds), maybe live betting is an opportunity to hedge against the Rahm wager. And with McIlory only two shots back with eight holes remaining, you decide to place a live bet on McIlroy to win the British Open at +200 odds.

Now, you’re holding tickets with the guarantee to win if either Rahm or McIlory wins two hours later.

British Open Parlays

British Open live betting isn’t limited to single bets. You can combine live odds into a parlay.

With hundreds of different odds available throughout the tournament, you can inject more entertainment into your British Open experience by building low-risk, high-reward parlays. In addition to the lower score on the 11th hole, perhaps there were live British Open odds available for Rahm’s score:

  • Birdie or better: +700
  • Par: -130
  • Bogey or worse: +180

And for McIlroy’s score:

  • Birdie or better: +750
  • Par: -140
  • Bogey or worse: +150

In addition to, or instead of, your live bet on McIlroy to win the championship, you placed a live parlay bet on both Rahm and McIlory to record a par on the 11th hole. The parlay, with odds of +203, has a potential payout of $303.29 (including stake).
