  • The 2024 DC Open will run concurrently with the Paris Olympic Games.
  • The total ATP prize purse in Washington, D.C., is more than $2 million.

The Olympics arenโ€™t the only place for high-level tennis as the calendar turns to August.ย

The 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open is a joint ATP/WTA 500 event, with the main draw scheduled to play from July 29 through Aug. 4. Itโ€™s the second week of the American hardcourt swing that leads to the US Open, following last weekโ€™s Atlanta Open.ย

Itโ€™s understandable to think that a mid-level tour event like the DC Open would be overshadowed by Olympic competition.ย

But in spite of the competing events, the US capital event has been able to draw a compelling player list that includes Americans Ben Shelton, Sebastian Korda, and Frances Tiafoe.

DC will also host a number of top Russian and Belarusian players โ€“ Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Aryna Sabalenka, Daria Kasatkina, and Liudmila Samsonova, to name a few. Itโ€™s possible some may have chosen to focus on points and tour winnings instead of the Paris Games because of the current international prohibition on Russian representation.ย

Rublev and Sabalenka, in particular, should be top threats in their respective draws, so consider their tennis odds carefully.ย

The prize money available to menโ€™s and womenโ€™s players is uneven at the DC Open. Thatโ€™s increasingly unusual for modern tour events, but it may remain the case in Washington because the menโ€™s draw is larger than the womenโ€™s.ย

The ATP event includes 48 players in the main draw and 24 qualifiers, while the WTA draw is only 32 main-draw players and 16 qualifiers.ย
