Live sports betting has exploded in popularity as sports fans inject more excitement into online sports betting, including golf betting.

At BetMGM, you can place live bets on U.S. Open odds, Ryder Cup odds, and more tournaments around the world.

What is Live Sports Betting?

When an event begins, pre-game betting (or pre-match, pre-tournament, etc.) closes, and live betting opens. And live betting doesn’t close until the completion of the event.

For example, around 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 22, Brooks Koepka birdied the par-3 fifth hole to pull within two strokes of Phil Mickelson at the 2021 PGA Championship. About 20 minutes later, Mickelson couldn’t match Koepka’s birdie, instead sinking a par putt to remain 7-under.

At this moment (3:52 p.m. ET, ) despite a two-shot lead with 23 holes remaining, Mickelson wasn’t the outright favorite in live PGA Championship odds:

  • Koepka: +350
  • Mickelson: +350
  • Matsuyama: +500
  • Oosthuizen: +800

Whether or not you placed pre-tournament wagers on Mickelson or any other golfer, you had access to live betting, and those live odds as Mickelson teed off on the par-4 sixth hole.

From tournament winner and third-round leader to lowest score on the next hole (between two golfers) and player or hole specials, live golf betting was available for the PGA Championship at the moment of Patrick Rada, Adam Long, and Cameron Tringale’s tee shots at 7 a.m. ET on Thursday through Mickelson’s final putt on Sunday evening.

How to Live Bet on Golf

With BetMGM’s easy-to-use live betting page, it’s never been easier to place live bets on golf.

While watching the PGA Championship or tracking scores online, you could’ve also been browsing live odds and waiting for a favorable number to post. And maybe your favorable number was posted after Mickelson’s par putt on the fifth hole.

After passing on pre-tournament betting, you placed a $100 live bet on Mickelson to win. And two hours later, as Mickelson (-7) led Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke, you placed another live bet on Mickelson: $100 to be the third-round leader (+140).

You were holding two live tickets:

  • $100: Mickelson to win the tournament
    • Potential Payout: $450
  • $100: Mickelson to lead after the third round
    • Potential Payout: $240

The second ticket cashed when Mickelson parred the 18th to close Saturday at 7-under, one shot ahead of Koepka. And the first ticket cashed when Mickelson became the oldest major winner a day later.

Live Betting Parlays

Live golf betting isn’t limited to single bets. You can combine bets into a multi-leg parlay with bigger payout potential.

While Mickelson and Koepka were playing the 11th hole on Sunday, the pair, and several other players, had odds for individual holes. For example, odds for Mickelson’s 12th-hole score:

  • Birdie or better: +750
  • Par: -175
  • Bogey or worse: +200

After cashing the $240 third-round leader ticket a day earlier, you took a swing on a final-round $100 parlay by combining a Mickelson par (-175) with Koepka par (-100) on a two-leg live betting parlay. The potential payout was $314.29, which you received 30 minutes later as both Mickelson and Koepka made par.

With live betting, your ticket cashes immediately. You don’t need to wait hours or days for the completion of a tournament, match, or game. The immediate returns allow you to place several live bets throughout one event.
