After bursting on the scene last year, Lawrence Butler is the Athletics player to watch in 2025.
Butler generated 3.0 WAR in his first full MLB campaign last year, posting an OPS+ of 131 with 22 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases. The former sixth-round pick in the 2028 MLB draft could become the Athletics’ franchise player.
I’ll monitor Butler’s home run prices in a minor-league ballpark this season.
Athletics Betting Prediction for 2025
Based on the updated MLB odds market, I predict Athletics closer Mason Miller will win AL Reliever of the Year (+400) in 2025.
Miller was arguably the most impressive reliever last year. Nobody throws harder out of the bullpen than him, which is why he posted a 2.49 ERA and 28 saves in 55 games last season.
The Athletics will have to give him more save opportunities in 2025, but this market might be the best way to bet on their upside case while playing in a new ballpark.
OOPSY projects Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanual Clase to lead the AL with 34 saves after he won this award last year. New York Yankees closer Devin Williams is projected for 31.
Miller is third with 30, and that’s with his team being projected to be worse than the Guardians and Yankees.
If the A’s are surprisingly competitive, Miller can shut the door with his triple-digit fastball in the ninth inning.
