Polanco, who had been with the Twins since 2014, was traded to the Seattle Mariners to make room for Minnesota prospect Brooks Lee.
The Twins received four players in the deal, including Topa and DeSclafani. Topa posted a 2.61 ERA across 69 innings last season and projects to hold a middle-inning role with Minnesota this summer.

Three teams have minus odds to win their respective divisions before the opener. The Twins join an exclusive group that includes the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves.
While Minnesota lacks the upside of those two NL heavyweights, baseball odds expect a similar path to a regular-season division crown. That’s how weak the AL Central is this year.
The Twins might have played it too safe this offseason regarding their ability to make a deep postseason run, but they should have no problem dispatching their division foes. They won this division by nine games last season.
If you want a wager with juicer odds, Royce Lewis is my favorite MLB MVP odds long-shot prediction at +4000. But Minnesota’s odds to win the AL Central could be -200 come summertime.
