The pursuit of Ohtani was real, but the Blue Jays were no match for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto did bring in a designated hitter this offseason, signing Turner to a one-year, $13 million contract.
Turner, 39, hit .276 with 23 home runs and 96 RBI in 146 games for the Boston Red Sox last year. He will slot in the middle of the lineup, but the Blue Jays need internal offensive improvements.
Blue Jays 2024 Betting Prediction
Prediction: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to record over 33.5 home runs (-105)
Perhaps this is wishful thinking, as baseball is better when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is mashing home runs.
But the Blue Jays slugger is due for a bounce-back campaign.
Since leading the league with 48 blasts in 2021, Guerrero has yet to clear this mark. He hit 32 homers in 2022 and 26 in 2023.
But the cover athlete on this year’s MLB The Show is coming off a spring where he hit three homers in 41 at-bats. I think his power will come back in a big way in 2024.
