When Adam Wainwright agreed to a one-year, $17.5 million contract extension with the St. Louis Cardinals on Oct. 26, 2022, he announced his plans to retire at the end of the 2023 season.

How Long Has Adam Wainwright Played?

Wainwright made his MLB debut on Sept. 11, 2005, for the St. Louis Cardinals. During his career, the three-time All-Star (2010, 2013, 2014) has won the Silver Slugger Award (2017), two Gold Glove Awards (2009, 2013), and a World Series title (2006).

The 2023 season is Wainwright’s 19th year in the majors, all spent with the Cardinals, though he didn’t pitch at all during the 2011 season due to Tommy John surgery.
