Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić has overtaken Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry as the betting favorite to win the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year award. Jokić’s odds now sit at -115, a significant jump from the +3500 he held in the offseason, when I recommended him as a long-shot bet.
Backing Jokić for Clutch Player of the Year remains my preferred way to bet on the world’s best player. Ironically, his MVP candidacy has worked against him in this category, as seen in his fourth-place finish last season despite strong performances.
Last year, Jokić ranked fourth in the league with 129 total clutch points, yet his 121.7 clutch minutes were the fewest among the top four vote-getters.
