NBA player salaries are widely cited throughout the offseason, particularly as free agency opens, and during the season as players underperform or sign new contracts. A few superstars also get the bag and are now part of the exclusive list of NBA players with a $200 million contract.

But what about coaches’ salaries?

NBA Coaches Salary: How Much Do NBA Coaches Make?

The average salary for an NBA head coach is approximately $3.5 million, with the lowest paid still securing a minimum of $2 million per year.

Here’s a list of the top seven highest-paid NBA coaches in the 2024 season.

NBA Coach Salary List

Rank Coach Team Estimated Salary
1 Gregg Popovich SAS $16 Million
2 Monty Williams DET $13 Million
3 Steve Kerr GSW $9.5 Million
4 Nick Nurse PHI $9 Million
5 Erik Spoelstra MIA $8.5 Million
T6 Tom Thibodeau NYK $8 Million
T6 Jason Kidd DAL $8 Million

Highest Paid NBA Coach

Gregg Popovich is currently the highest-paid NBA coach. Popovich’s contract pays him $16 million per season.

Popovich signed a new five-year contract with the Spurs in the summer 2023 on the heels of San Antonio’s selection of Victor Wembanyama in the NBA draft.

At the time of the signing, it was the richest coaching contract in NBA history. That’s an apt payment for Popovich, a five-time NBA champion who has been the head man in San Antonio since 1996.
