After a two-year stint with the Saints, former national champion Jameis Winston went in search of his next NFL contract.
He found a new home in Cleveland, where the Browns were looking to add depth behind an aging and regressing Deshaun Watson.
After Watson tore his Achilles in the middle of the season, the Browns turned to Winston, who will likely finish the year as the starting quarterback in Cleveland.
Winston has been far from perfect, but some handicappers have been betting Browns odds anyway. Perhaps Winston’s flawed gunslinger approach provides more upside to Cleveland than whatever Watson was doing.
One thing remains inarguable: Winston is much, much cheaper.
Jameis Winston Contract
Jameis Winston signed a one-year contract with the Browns totaling $4 million.
The deal is fully guaranteed and includes several incentives, many of which are tied to Winston playing at least 50% of the team’s snaps on offense.
Jameis Winston Signing Bonus
Jameis Winston received a signing bonus of $2.79 million, which frontloaded much of his pay structure.
Jameis Winston Salary
Jameis Winston is collecting a base salary of $1.21 million in 2024. That’s the NFL veteran minimum salary rate for a player with at least seven years of experience.
