Aiming for a second consecutive Super Bowl berth, Burrow and the Bengals came up just short, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game. The loss was Burrow’s first against fellow star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the former having been a perfect 3-0 against his counterpart before Sunday’s showdown. The 26-year-old, whose offensive line surrendered five sacks, completed 26 of 41 passes for 270 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the defeat.

Despite the disappointing finish, Burrow cemented himself as one of the game’s top quarterbacks, throwing for 4,475 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during the regular season. Having completed his third NFL campaign, the former Heisman Trophy winner is now eligible for a contract extension, where he is expected to be amongst the league’s highest-paid players.

Herbert’s season ended in the Wild Card Round as the Chargers blew a 27-point lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars, falling 31-30. Dealing with fractured ribs for much of the year and a banged-up receiving corps, the former Oregon standout failed to throw 30 touchdowns for the first time in his career.

Burrow’s Bengals surprised many last season, advancing to the franchise’s first Super Bowl since 1989 before falling to the Los Angeles Rams 23-20. Explosive playmakers surround the former LSU standout in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon, as well as an ever-improving defense. Following two straight AFC Championship Game appearances, Burrow appears primed for continued playoff success.
