The Super Bowl was last played in an outdoor stadium on Feb. 7, 2021, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super LV at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
Outside Super Bowls
The first 11 Super Bowls were hosted by open-air venues, a streak ended in January 1978 when Super Bowl XII was played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
Through the first 57 editions of the game, 34 times it has been played in entirely open-air venues. That doesn’t include venues that are partially exposed to open air (e.g., SoFi Stadium) or those with retractable roofs (e.g., AT&T Stadium).
