Mac Jones’ base salary is $2,076,941 for 2023, the third year of a four-year contract he signed after being selected by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Mac Jones Contract
Mac Jones signed a fully guaranteed four-year deal in July 2021 worth $15,586,352. It included a $8,695,528 signing bonus.
Jones’ annual base salary began at $660,000 in 2021, increased to $1,368,471 in 2022, and will be over $2 million in 2023. His 2023 cap hit will be $4,250,823.
He’ll be eligible for an extension after the 2023 season ends. And the Patriots will have until May 2024 to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2025 season.
Mac Jones Dead Money if Traded
If traded before the 2023 season, Mac Jones would leave behind more than $9 million in dead money.
“I think [the Patriots] would [consider trading Jones],” Albert Breer said last week on 98.5 The Sports Hub. “Internally, I don’t know if they see this massive gap between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.
“I’m not saying they think Bailey’s as good as Mac, but there was some element of Bailey doing what he was coached to do last year that I think gave Bailey the edge to some degree for a little while there.”
If Jones is traded in 2024, he’d leave behind a dead cap hit of approximately $5 million.
