It’s difficult to know for sure if Jerry Jones and the Cowboys knew what an elite player they were getting when they drafted Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons at No. 12 overall during the 2021 NFL Draft.
It was a decision that has remade NFL betting lines in the Cowboys’ favor.
Micah Parsons Contract
Micah Parsons is entering his third season of a four-year contract with the Cowboys. The four-year deal is worth a total of $17,079,793. He currently has the 18th most expensive contract among linebackers (total value).
For the 2023 season, his base salary is $2,212,708. He has a total cap hit of $4,658,125.
His contract is fully guaranteed.
Micah Parsons 5th-Year Option
Micah Parsons (and the rest of the 2021 first-round picks) can have their fifth-year options picked up until May 1, 2024.
All drafted rookies are given four-year contracts, and teams can extend that contract to a fifth year with players selected in the first round.

Micah Parsons Extension
Micah Parsons is eligible for an extension after the third year of his rookie contract, which is after the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
This isn’t 1985, so linebackers aren’t guaranteed massive contracts as de facto team leaders on defense.
Still, it does seem like Parsons is an elite talent that’s worthy of whatever big contract Dallas can afford to give him.
