  • Seven quarterbacks were drafted ahead of Dak Prescott in the 2016 NFL Draft.
  • Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were the first two picks of the 2016 draft.

Seven quarterbacks were selected before Dak Prescott in the 2016 NFL Draft. But with Prescott as their signal caller, the Cowboys have consistently been among the NFL odds leaders to make the playoffs.

Prescott was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016, and he wasn’t expected to be that successful that soon.

Who Was the Cowboys Quarterback Before Dak Prescott?

Tony Romo was the starting quarterback of the Cowboys before they drafted Dak Prescott out of Mississippi State. But because of an injury to Romo, Prescott started his first career game in 2016 and has been Dallas’ primary passer ever since.

Romo played just one game in 2016 at 36 years old before retiring the following year.
