Eberflus was named the 17th head coach of the Chicago Bears in January of 2022.
The Bears stunned the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, as Eberflus won his head coaching debut. Unfortunately, that was the high-water mark for the Bears as they went 2-14 the rest of the way. Midway through the season, the Bears unleashed the running ability of Justin Fields and saw a noticeable improvement on the offensive side of the ball.
That was not matched with defensive progress, and the Bears ended up with the first pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Bears leadership has publicly expressed confidence in Eberflus, and it is clear they want Fields to be the quarterback of the future, so they will not be drafting a quarterback with the first pick. They could trade the pick for a huge package of additional selections to rebuild the roster and give Eberflus a chance to build a winner in the Windy City.
