Kicker Wil Lutz has been in the NFL for six seasons, all coming with the Saints.
Wil Lutz Salary
The New Orleans Saints kicker signed a five-year, $20.25 million deal with the team ahead of the 2019 season. This upcoming season he will earn $1.25 million in base salary, $500 thousand in signing bonus, and $450,000 in roster bonuses.
Wil Lutz Cap Hit
The 29-year-old will carry a cap hit of $4.12 million this year.
Wil Lutz Potential Extension
Lutz has spent the entirety of his six-year NFL career with the Saints. After missing the entire 2021 season due to injury, he struggled in 2022. He went 23-for-31 on field goal attempts, dropping his field goal percentage below 80% for the first time in his career. However, he was a perfect 33-for-33 on extra-point tries and cashed four field goals of 50-plus yards.
Looking at the rest of the Saints’ roster, the team is projected to be well over the salary cap entering the 2023 season. Lutz has already agreed to take a $1.5 million pay cut to remain in New Orleans for the final year of his contract.
Lutz’s willingness to take a pay cut displays his loyalty to the franchise. Should his level of play remain consistent or improve, his priority will likely be to resign with New Orleans instead of testing the free-agent market.
